ASTER GDEM sudah direlease. Kita bisa register dan mendownload data tersebut secara gratis. Tutorial untuk register dan mendownload data ASTER GDEM sudah ada yang membuat di sini. Akan tetapi, website penyedia data selalu berujung kepada error page. Server yang terlampau sibuk boleh menjadi alasannya.

Alternatif mendownload ASTER GDEM adalah lewat FTP. Berikut adalah tahapannya.

Create Account (kalau belum punya). Ikuti tahapannya sampai anda memiliki account.

Berikutnya melakukan pencarian data. Ini sangat membingungkan terkadang. Langkah selanjutnya adalah cara yang saya pikir paling mudah.
Pilih sorting categories “By Discipline”
Di bawah kategori “Land” Pilih lah “ASTER“
Cari frase kategori “ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model v001″ di bagian atas dari jendela kategori. Pilih lah.
Klik “Choose dataset keywords” sehingga jendela keyword/category menjadi kecil
Saya tidak melakukan perubahan pada “Choose a Data Search Type”
“Choose Search Area” saya tentukan dengan “Type in Lat/Lon Point”. Isikan lat/lon areal yang menjadi interest kita. Satu titik lat/lon akan mengenerate data di cart sebanyak 4 x 4 derajat. Silakan kalau mau berexperimen metode seleksi yang lain.
Option yang lain saya biarkan
Klik Start Search
Pilih data yang diinginkan. Kita bisa meraba-raba lokasi data dengan melihat “Data Granule ID”
Lanjutkan belanja dengan “Add Selections to Cart“
Lanjutkan proses Order dengan “Go to Step 2“
Data diri dan informasi tagihan akah muncul. Lakukan pengubahan jika perlu. Kalau saya biarkan saja form ini. Di situ ada “Biling Address”, tapi jangan khawatir, ASTER GDEM free. Sehingga bill akan $0 (nol) perak.

Tunggu konfirmasi di email. Akan ada beberapa email yang masuk. Tunggu sampai ada informasi akses FTP.

Online KML To Shapefile Converter

Just got an email from Zonums Software that, after a prolonged hiatus, they’ve resumed development of free stand-alone and web-based geographic tools. Zonums has released an online KML to shapefile converter:

Select the KML/KMZ file you want to convert, or paste the KML text into the box at the bottom. In this case, I’ve uploaded a KML file with 3 points, one path and one polygon, and the KML code appears in the text box:

Click on “Process KML Data”, and the file will be analyzed to determine what kinds of shapes it contains, and how many:

You have the option of setting either UTM or latitude/longitude as the coordinate system. Click on any of the Export buttons on the left, and the selected data points will be converted to shapefile format, with the option to download the resulting shapefile:

For this case, with Points selected, I can download a points.zip file that contains the required shp, dbf and shx files, as well as the option prj file that contains coordinate projection system info.

The buttons at the right give you the additional options to Convert the original data to a different vector format, then Export it to shapefile format. So for a set of three points, I can convert those to a line or polygon format by selecting the desired format from the drop-down, then export a line or polygon shapefile with those three points as the vertices. Seems to worked as advertised; here are the point (red dots) and polygon (gray area) shapefiles generated from the same sample points, plotted in a GIS viewer:

For converting KML files to other formats, like DXF, GPX and CSV, Zonum’s kml2x online converter is still available.

Picmeta PhotoTracker 1.1 is freeware utility to automatically geotags your photos based on the track data from GPS exchange files. It virtually connects any GPS receiver with your digital camera.

How to use Picmeta PhotoTracker 1.1 :

Select the GPS exchange file (.gpx format). It may be necessary to create this file using the Export function in your GPS software (e.g. Garmin MapSource).
Select the folder which contains the photos.
Click Start

Picmeta PhotoTracker can tag many file formats including RAW. It directly writes GPS EXIF data to .jpg, .tif, .crw, .dng, .nef, .pef, .jp2, .orf, .psd formats. For other formats such as .cr2 it creates XMP sidecar files based on Adobe standards.

Creating a Dynamic Chart in ArcMap

chart in ArcGIS refugees has changed the appearance of data presentation, after a long chart functions performed in ArcView 3.x is static and less interesting. At least that was my personal opinion. I seldom use the chart, because it is rarely played with demographic data or the like that require the display on the chart layout map.

Richie has made a plugin that can display dynamic charts in Desktop ArcGIS / ArcMap. Excess Dynamic Charting is updating although the ability to edit the session and as shown in the picture above, looks very interesting. Download link plugin is available at the end of this posting.

To be able to install this plugin necessary Dynamic Charting Microsoft. NET 3.5, you will be in direct to the Microsoft website if your computer is not available, and the required ESRI. NET Support can be obtained here. Plugins can be used in ArcGIS Desktop 9.2/9.3/9.3.1.

How to install:

1) Download this contribution to your computer,
2) Unzip the file,
3) Double click on the setup program (.msi) and following the installation instructions.

How to use Dynamic Charts:
————————–
1) Start ArcMap,
2) Add a feature layer
(eg shapefile, geodatabase feature class),
3) Select a unique value renderer
- Right click on a layer, select properties,
- Click the Symbology tab,
- Click Categories > Unique Values
- Select a Value Field,
- Enter values or click “Add All Values”
- Click ok.
4) Display the Dynamic Charts toolbar
(click View > Toolbars > Dynamic Charting)
5) Click the first (and only button) on the toolbar,
6) Drag and drop a layer to the Dynamic Charting dialog,
7) Modify the refresh rate (if necessary)

The charts will update dynamically even you are editing.

About the DRTM Data SRTM linked above (Readme.txt) ROCESSED SRTM DATA VERSION 4

The data distributed here are in ARC GRID, ARC ASCII and Geotiff format, in decimal degrees and datum WGS84. They are derived from the USGS/NASA SRTM data. CIAT have processed this data to provide seamless continuous topography surfaces. Areas with regions of no data in the original SRTM data have been filled using interpolation methods described by Reuter et al. (2007).

Create 3D Images Using Global Mapper

During the later part of December 2006, I worked on the Guadalupe Island project. I began with a Landsat image. After a quick, yet thorough, inspection, I determined that the Landsat image was not satisfactory for an EVS quality project. First, and foremost, far too many clouds obscured the island.

So, I visited Google Earth and found a great 1-meter resolution Digital Globe image. I used it to digitize my various layers of information. Around the same time, I began using SRTM data to construct contours for many of my completed projects. I used the following SRTM data to construct contours for Guadalupe Island.

From these images, using Global Mapper, contours were quickly and easily generated. I knew Global Mapper had a 3D feature and if you have loaded the proper data, SRTM for example, 3D images can be easily rendered. I had never used it.

First you need the image you will drape over the SRTM data. This image must be loaded on top of the SRTM data. So I loaded the Digital Globe images of Guadalupe Island into Global Mapper. All four of the images were at a scale of 1:62,000.

To select the 3D option, you merely point and click.

And there you have it - a 3D view of Guadalupe Island. Needless to say, you can control the vertical exaggeration, ocean depth and other aspects of the image. The image can be tilted, twisted, zoomed and other manuvers. You can snap a picture at each juncture.

This view shows a deficiency of the SRTM data. If something obscured the elevation data gathered by the Shuttle, you are left with what is called a void. There is data available that attempts to fill the voids with reliable alternative elevation data. A couple of areas along the western side of Guadalupe are actually voids. The elevation data at those voids are greatly exagerated. As I gather more SRTM data, I will replace the SRTM voids with SRTM with filled voids.

The 3D views are easy to make and quite informative in the elevation details they display. It makes 1-meter resolution imagery come alive.

How To Digitize Using Google Earth Plus

Making a Map in Google Earth

This is a very popular series of images taken from an earlier post. Making a map from Google Earth imagery, more precisely, from Digital Globe (DG) imagery found in Google Earth is detailed in the above image collection. If you are fortunate enough to have your specific area of interest covered in DG's hi-res imagery, you can construct an exquisite vector map using it while in Google Earth Plus. GE Plus is the $20 per year version of Google's popular earth-viewing software. Within the software is the capability to construct rudimentary maps. I use GE Plus to construct highly detailed shorelines and land use areas of some of my project islands. I call these shorelines HRVS or Hi-Res Vector Shorelines.

The "How To Digitize" is displayed in the set of images that accompany this post. The process is simple and the vectors constructed can be directly imported into most popular mapping packages. Using a free translater tool, GE Path, KML files can be imported into MS Exel where one can easily create ARC Ungenerate format vector mapping files. These vector files can be imported into many other less well-known mapping packages, including my personal favorite, Marplot.

Google Earth Network Links Explained

Network Links are a very powerful, but very simple, feature of Google Earth that every Google Earth user should understand. Also, EVERY Google Earth content developer that hosts KML/KMZ files online should understand Network Links and make use of them when it makes sense. So take a couple minutes and read below to learn how to make use of this powerful feature of Google Earth.

Background:

Normally when you add custom KML content to you My Places, all of the data included with that custom KML file gets added to your main myplaces.kml file (saved under Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Google\GoogleEarth\myplaces.kml). For example, if you were to click on this KMZ file link and save the content to your permanent My Places folder in Google Earth, then you would have just made your myplaces.kml file about 15 megabytes larger than it was before and you would notice that it now takes Google Earth several more seconds to start up. Do this 10 or 15 times and your myplaces.kml file can quickly grow out of control. Also, if the original author of that KMZ file updates it, then you would need to go back to their website and download it again to get the update.

If instead, you decide to use a Network Link, some important things will happen:

Instead of your myplaces.kml file becoming 15 megabytes larger, it will only become 1-2 kilobytes larger. You can add 1,000’s of Network Links without having to worry about the size of your myplaces.kml file.
If you create a Network Link to a remotely hosted KML file, and the original author of that KML file decides to update it in the future (and doesn’t change the url/filename), then that update will automatically transfer to your machine.
If you create a Network Link to a KML file stored on your local hard drive, then it won’t affect the size of your myplaces.kml file and won’t affect Google Earth’s load time.

How does all this happen? Simple, because the Network Link does not load the actual KMZ file until you enable the Network Link in Google Earth by checking the box next to it. The table below gives some recommendations on when to use Network Links, and what type of Network Link to use.

Network Link to Remote URL:

KML data is updated frequently by the author

KML data is less than 2-3 megabytes

KML data is not accessed very often

Network Link to local file on hard drive:

KML data is rarely updated

KML data is larger than 2-3 megabytes

KML data is frequently accessed

Network Link Not Necessary:

KML data is very small (less than 100K)

Creating a Network Link:

If your still reading, then I must have convinced you Network Links are a good thing. So how do you create a Network Link? Simple:

Copy the URL of the KML/KMZ file that you want to add. (right-click on the link and select Copy Link Location or Copy Shortcut).
Go to Google Earth and select Network Link from the Add menu at the top.

Put your cursor in the box next to Link and hit CTRL-P to paste the URL of the KMZ file into that box.

Type in something in the Name field at the top.
That’s it. Leave everything else as the default values.

Congratulations, you’ve just created a Network Link. Now you can save the Network Link under your permanent My Places folder in Google Earth just like you normally would.

You can also use Network Links for content stored on your local hard drive. Instead of pasting the URL into the Link box, just click Browse and select the file on your local hard drive.

Content Developers:

If you host KMZ/KML files online, you should consider using Network Links when it makes sense. The advantages are that the user will not have to manually create one and if you update your KML code in the future, the update will automatically propogate to the user. Also, users can pass around a Network Link through email, etc, much easier than the larger KML/KMZ file. The disadvantage of course is increased load on your server since the users will be downloading the main KML file each time they access it.

Or maybe even give the user the option of choosing between direct download of the entire KML/KMZ file or a Network Link. In fact, as I write this, I’m thinking I may add this option to files on my blog.

Below is some sample code for a very basic Network Link. Simply fill in the Name, Description and the URL to the KMZ/KML file that you want it to load. Then save as KML file and use this for the link the users will click on to access files on your website.

The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Sun, 05/31/2009 6:18 PM | World Manohara Odelia Pinot, an Indonesian model who was reported to have been kept and abused by her royal Malaysian husband, returned to Indonesia on Sunday, after a dramatic escape from a hotel in Singapore.

Speaking to a packed press conference in Jakarta, the Indonesian model of American descent, who speaks fluent English and French, recounted her movie-like escape: she had to hide out in a bathroom to buy time, refuse to be injected against her will and repeatedly press the emergency button in the elevator before the Singaporean police came to help her.

“They [the Singaporean police] brought me to a room. My mother arrived not long afterward and we embraced each other,” she said as quoted by Detik.com.

Daisy Fajarini told El-shinta radio she flew to Singapore after learning that her daughter was in the country.

The Foreign Ministry said the American Embassy was involved in the process of freeing Manohara. “The ministry coordinated with the United States Embassy because Manohara’s biological father is an American national which makes her an American national as well,” Teuku Faizasyah, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson told The Jakarta Post.

Presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subiakto says they are promising at least ten percent economic growth if they are elected.

“Me and [Prabowo] have talked about two-digit [economic growth],” said Megawati during economic dialogue held by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (Kadin) at Sangri-La Hotel Jakarta,

Megawati added that the target would be gained if the economic infrastructures were ready to be operated.

Similar with Megawati, Prabowo Subiakto said that he was optimisitic to net two digits of economic growth, generating agriculture sector and prepare sustainable energy in the country.

“The target is 10 percent economic growth,” Prabowo told reporters

“We have to stop disbursement of our national wealth. Every year our national wealth is leaking to overseas,” he said, adding that the current economy system was to ask loan for paying loan.

The economic growth target of the pair is higher rather than their two competitors Jusuf Kalla and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who are only targeting 8 and 7 of economic growth, respectively, for the next five years.

The target was criticized by businessmen saying that the target was irrational because the world has hit by crisis. Erwin Aksa from the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi) said that the target was impossible due to many problems which have to face by the new president.

“The most important thing is to boost the existence of our economy resources. If we can use the sources efficiently, probably it will increase the economic growth,” Erwin said. (naf)

22- In the “Path to license file” browse to C:/program files/ESRI/License/arcgix9x/license.lic

23- In the “Path to debug log file” just browse and select ” ArcGIS_LM ” from the pops up window

24- Select “Start/Stop/Reread” tab

27- Now instal the main program

28- Do not register

29- Copy “data_interop\fme_license.dat” to “Program install-dir\Data Interoperability Extension”

30-start “Desktop Administrator” from Start/Programms/ArcGis/Desktop Administrator and do modify it as follow:

* “Software Product”: choose “ArcInfo (Floating)”

* “License Manager”: change to “localhost”(browse to your computer)

* “Availability”: select “ArcInfo Desktop (Floating)”

31- Make sure to select all extensions when starting the different applications for the first time from the Tools/Extension

Indonesia Prepares WOC Ddaft Declaration

The Indonesian delegation to the WOrld Ocean Conference has distributed the preliminary draft of the Manado Ocean Declaration to participating delegates, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi said Sunday.

A senior official meeting will discuss the draft declaration during the WOC and the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) Summit, held in Manado, North Sulawesi, from May 11-15, 2009.

“We are grateful that a lot of countries are supporting the concept that we initiated here in Indonesia,” Freddy told reporters at the Grand Kawanua Convention Center in Manado on Sunday.

He said the declaration will urge the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting to discuss issues of coastal and ocean management. The next UNFCCC meeting will be held in Copenhagen on December 7-18.

The minister noted that many countries, including developed countries, had shown their support for the WOC. He expressed hope developed countries would be willing to talk about ways to help fishermen in poor countries, who are suffering from the impact of environmental damages resulting from resource exploitation.

Opening Files Using Office 2007 With Office 2003

There are many reasons why we have not yet installed a computer with Microsoft Office 2007, among others, we are already familiar with the Microsoft Office 2003. Butuh penyesuaian yang lama sekali kalau mau menggunakan Microsoft Office 2007. Need adjustment if the old one would like to use Microsoft Office 2007. Tapi alasan yang utama adalah dikarenakan spesifikasi perangkat keras komputer kita yang belum mendukung Microsoft Office 2007. But the main reason is because the computer hardware specifications that we not support Microsoft Office 2007. Kalau dipaksakan maka apa yang terjadi? If forced then what happens? Komputer kita menjadi sangat lambat dan tentunya itu sangat mengganggu kinerja kita sehari-sehari. Computer we become very slow and of course the performance is our day-to-day.
Tapi jangan khawatir teman-teman karena permasalahan ini ada solusinya nih. But do not worry my friends because of this I have the solution. Teman-teman tinggal instalasi software yang ternyata sudah disediakan oleh Microsoft. Friends live installation software that is provided by Microsoft. Teman-teman bisa cari di internet FileFormatConverters.exe atau klik halaman langsung atau buka saja di http://10.7.4.28. Friends can search the internet FileFormatConverters.exe or click on a page or open it directly in http://10.7.4.28. Saya sudah membagi file tersebut. I have to share the file. Perangkat lunak yang ukuran unduhannya cuma sebesar 28,2 MB itu enggak berat seperti Microsoft Office 2007. Software size unduhannya only 28.2 MB of that weight enggak such as Microsoft Office 2007.
Langkah pertama yang harus kita lakukan adalah tentunya dengan menginstalasi perangkat lunak tersebut. The first step that we need to do is to install the course software. Mudah sekali dan tidak lama. Easy and not very long. Tinggal ikuti perintah yang sudah ada. Live follow the existing command. Cuma tekan dan tekan saja. Free press and the press only. Setelah semuanya selesai. After everything is finished. Buka deh Windows Explorer lalu cari berkas Microsoft Office 2007 yang kita inginkan. Deh open Windows Explorer and search Microsoft Office 2007 files that we want. Dulu sebelum perangkat lunak ini terinstalasi maka ikon dari berkas yang ingin kita buka berbentuk ikon tak dikenal, tapi setelah komputer kita sudah terinstalasi maka ikonnya sudah tampak seperti biasanya ada ikon Excel atau Word. Lalu silakan klik ganda untuk membuka berkas tersebut. Then please double click to open the file. Berkas itu akan terbuka seperti biasanya untuk berkas Word. The file will open as usual for the Word file. Sedangkan untuk Excel maka berkas itu terbuka Read-Only dan untuk bisa mengedit dan menyimpannya maka pilih saja save-as. While for the Excel file is opened Read-Only, and to be able to edit and save it then just select save-as.
Nah, sekarang teman-teman sudah ndak gundah lagi bukan? Well, now friends are no longer depressed is not it? Instalasi saja segera perangkat lunak ini. Install only the software immediately. Dan jikalau menurut teman-teman program ini sudah tidak berguna (karena mungkin Microsoft Office 2007 sudah ada di computer) uninstall-nya gampang kok. And if the friends of this program is not useful (as it may be Microsoft Office 2007 already in the computer) it's easy to uninstall kok. Ikuti langkah ini: Follow these steps:
